Koblenz – the metropolis of the region

The city with its grand Electoral Palace, Ehrenbreitstein Fortress towering high above the Rhine and, of course, the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Here, Rhenish cheerfulness and serenity meet modern scene culture. Walls from the Roman founding period and later French conquest meet modern business centres and contemporary cultural offerings. A visit is always worthwhile.

World Heritage Middle Rhine

The Middle Rhine World Heritage Site stretches downstream roughly from Bingen to the Neuwied Bay, making it about 80 kilometres long.

The most beautiful way to get to know this region is to travel through it on a white ship of the Köln-Düsseldorfer fleet. The starting and ending point of such a trip can be Koblenz or another town in the Middle Rhine Valley. The ships sail according to a timetable every hour. On booked routes, you can get off and on again at any stopover. From Koblenz, the boat travels upstream past vineyards, romantic castles and many winegrowing towns such as Boppard, St. Goar and St. Goarshausen to Bingen and Rüdesheim. 

Past the legendary rock of the Loreley near St. Goar, through the narrowest and deepest parts of the Rhine stream, on to Oberwesel and towards the Palatinate near Kaub, built in the middle of the stream. These are just a few examples of all the sights the Middle Rhine Valley has to offer you.

Cochem – The old Moselle town

Cochem, the old Moselle town, has become a magnet for visitors to the Moselle region. The two Moselle bridges invite you to take a tour on both sides of the Moselle. Stroll through its old town and marvel at the Reichsburg castle overlooking the town. It gives you interesting insights into the times of the Middle Ages and the later counts and princes. Cochem also hides a once great secret of the Federal Republic of Germany, the former bunker of the German Bundesbank. You can visit the bunker and the Reichsburg Castle on guided tours and immerse yourself in the history and recent history of our country.

Maria Laach Monastery and Abbey Church

Maria Laach was founded in 1093, almost 1,000 years ago. To this day, the monastery with its mighty basilica is a place of spiritual character, tranquillity and seclusion as a retreat from hectic everyday life.

And right next door, the Laacher See valley, the largest nature reserve in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, with its waterways and hiking trails, invites visitors to take an extended walk. You can see the volcanic origin of the lakes with their rock formations that cooled around 10,000 years ago.

Geierlay Suspension Rope Bridge

If you are looking for a little thrill and don’t suffer from vertigo, you should definitely visit the suspension rope bridge near the Hunsrück community of Mörsdorf. It spans a length of about 360 metres at a breathtaking height over the picturesque Hunsrück valley.

Excellent wines as well as a cuisine characterised by local specialities are an essential part of the culture in the Rhine-Moselle region. The Hieren Mühle is particularly well-known for its fish specialities from its own waters.

Those looking for entertainment and intellectual culture will find two houses with a wide range of drama, cabaret, comedy and music in the Zentrum am Park (ZAP) in Emmelshausen as well as in the Stadthalle Boppard. This is where TV-famous artists come together.

The nearest town for everyday shopping is Emmelshausen. The small town is about five kilometres away from Hieren Mühe. Here you will find numerous markets and shops with a comprehensive range of products. Many have large car parks, and parking is free here, as well as along the Rhein-Mosel-Straße (main street).
